FAQ
What Is Coaching?
Coaching is an action oriented process used to move
people forward in life. Like sports coaching or
music coaching, it usually involves clarifying where
the client is now, and what they would like to
achieve and have in their life. It then helps them
to develop strategies and specific action steps to
get there.
I guess you could say that life coaching is very
much like purchasing a self help book. A book that
comes with a friend, who will completely support
you, encourage you, explain confusing passages, and
keep you on track.
How is Coaching different from Therapy?
Coaches and therapists both serve people who are
seeking guidance in order to improve their lives.
But Coaching is not Psychotherapy. Psychotherapy
focuses on resolving or alleviating psychological
and emotional pain. It is based on a model of
diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and is a
health care service. |

With therapy, there is often a focus on gaining a
better understanding of why and how clients are not
able to have the life they want. For the most part,
clients are seen as wounded and in need of healing.
Coaching focuses on what kind of life the client
wants, and helps them create it. Clients are seen as
already whole and ready to take action in their
lives.
What if I need therapy and not coaching?
I have worked in the mental health community for 25
years and have a very good understanding of the
benefit of Psychotherapy and the issues that a
therapist would be better trained to help clients
with. If I feel you would be better served in therapy I
will let you know and will help you find a therapist
who is a good match.
How do the Coaching Sessions Work?
Coaching sessions take place via phone called “telecoaching.”
You will call me at your pre-scheduled appointment
time. Your appointment time will be determined based
on the times when you are available, and can be free
of distraction.
I offer unlimited email support between sessions to
be used for follow-ups to check on your progress and
answer any questions you may have about an
assignment, task, or topic. I also offer 5-15 minute
support calls as needed.
How long will we meet?
If after speaking to me you feel that you would like
us to work together, then I would recommend a
minimum amount of 3 months. This will allow you
enough time to really experience some positive
changes first hand.
But the real answer is that we will meet for as long
as you find it helpful to.
Can I talk to you before I decide?
Absolutely, our first meeting is complimentary. I
think it’s very important that you find the right
match for yourself and I would be more than happy to
talk with you and answer any questions you may have
to help you determine if I am the best coach for
you. I offer a free introductory session of 30
minutes and welcome you to
contact me to set
up a time for us to chat. |
